Visiting research fellow in the Field of Excellence "Dimensions of Europe"
A political scientist and historian working on gender equality in political processes, transitional democracies and social transformations, focusing on South-/Eastern Europe. She is an Associate Professor in Ukrainian History and Politics at the Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University (Mykolaiv, Ukraine). Assoc. Prof. Iovcheva is a project coordinator and senior teacher of the Jean Monnet Module “The European Union's Common Security and Defence Policy: challenges related to the War in Ukraine” (ESEDEP). She is also a senior teacher and researcher of the Jean Monnet Module “Implementation of European Values as a Basis of Democracy in Ukraine” (EVADEM). Assoc. Prof. Iovcheva is also a member of the international team of the British Academy project on ‘Societal Security Dilemma in post-independent Ukraine’, which started on 1 July 2024.

In addition, she is the executive director of the non-profit organisation "Together to develop", which focuses on scientific projects in the southern part of Ukraine. Assoc. Prof. Iovcheva is a member of the "Ukrainian Association of European Studies".
From April to August 2024, Assoc. Prof. Iovcheva was an UNDP Consultant on principles of safety, accessibility and inclusion and “build back better principles” in the Recovery Support Office, which provided expert and analytical support to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in the implementation of medium- and long-term projects to repair and rebuild war-damaged educational institutions.
From April 5 to September 30, 2022 Alina Iovcheva was a "full-time" Visiting Fellow of the Field of Excellence "Dimensions of Europeanization" at the University of Graz. From October 1, 2022 to October 1, 2023, she was a Fellow of “ALLEA - All European Academies” conducting research devoted to the implementation of European values as a basis of transitions to democracy.
She held the Visegrad Project on Democracy in Transition with V4 experience from 2015 to 2018. From January 2023 to February 2024, she was a coordinator of the Dissemination and Transparency Committee of the Erasmus+ Ka2 project "Distance Education for Future: best EU practices in response to the requests of modern higher education seekers and labour market (DEFEP)".
Her research interests include democracies in transition, gender-balanced political systems, as well as transit of socio-political values in military conflicts in South-/Eastern Europe. She is the author of numerous scientific articles on transformation and democratisation of political systems in South-/Eastern Europe in international and all-Ukrainian scientific journals. Assoc. Prof. Iovcheva is co-author of a monograph on Social Transformations in Ukraine (Security and Eurointegration dimensions). She has also published methodological and didactic works, made numerous presentations at scientific conferences and round tables.
