Susanne Sackl-Sharif

Susanne Sackl-Sharif worked as a research project assistent from 04.2012 to 09.2014 at the Department of Sociology.
She studied musicology and sociology at the University of Graz. In 2014 she received her PhD in Systematic Musicology and Sociology of Culture from the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Graz with the dissertation "Gender - Metal - Videoclips. A Qualitative Reception Study" (funded by a scholarship for female doctoral students at the University of Graz, awarded with the Josef-Krainer-Förderungspreis 2015).
Since April 2012, she has been a research project assistant in the FWF project "Nach Bologna: Gender Studies in der unternehmerischen Hochschule" (After Bologna: Gender Studies in the Entrepreneurial University), led by Angelika Wetterer and conducted in cooperation with the ZIFG of the TU Berlin (Sabine Hark), as well as a lecturer at the Institute of Sociology. Furthermore, she worked as a freelance researcher at the Department of Sociology (01.2010 - 09.2010) and as a lecturer at the Department of Musicology (03.2009 - 08.2011), at the Center for Systematic Musicology (SS 2012) and at the University of Salzburg (WS 2012/2013).
Since 2014 she has been a co-opted board member of the Austrian Society for Gender Studies (ÖGGF). She is a founding member of the working group "music | media | pusblishin" and served as 1st chairperson in the Dachverband der Studierenden der Musikwissenschaften (DVSM. e.V.) from 2010-2012. In these functions she organized scientific conferences as well as higher education policy events in Austria and Germany (Newly published: Gerlinde Malli & Susanne Sackl-Sharif (eds.) (2014). Her main research and teaching interests are: Metal Studies, Women's and Gender Studies, Qualitative Methods, Urban Sociology, Political Participation and Resistance, Gender Sociology of Science and Higher Education.
Her research and teaching focus areas are: Gender-sociological science and higher education research, qualitative methods, popular music research, media research.
