Dr. Sérgio Barbosa (University of Coimbra, PhD) is an Ernst Mach postdoctoral researcher linked to the Department of Sociology and the Graz Sociodigital and Participatory Futures Studio (GraSP Futures Studio), University of Graz. Previously, he was a postdoctoral researcher at University of Geneva. Barbosa served as a research fellow at five international research institutes, namely: Passau International Centre for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies (PICAIS), Center for Advanced Studies (CAS), Institute for Human Sciences (IWM), Institute for Advanced Studies on Science, Technology and Society (IAS-STS), and Center for Advanced Internet Studies (CAIS). His research interests include chat app platforms, digital activism, digital ethnography, engaged research and digital ethics. His recent work delves into pluriversal AI literacies for the Global Majority, while exploring young people’s digital agency to play a multi-disciplinary role for school reinvention in Brazil. He has been published in leading academic outlets such as the Political Studies Review, Mobile Media & Communication, First Monday, among others.
