Sara Skardelly is a PhD researcher in the Department of Sociology and the Center for Data Science in Business and Society at the University of Graz. She is also a member of the ComAI research unit and the project “Health: Caring through ComAI” (2025-2028).
Her research explores the intersection of digital technology, care, and health. Informed by feminist STS and anticipation studies, her dissertation investigates visions and narratives around the care obligations of communicative AI in health and social care and engages with imaginaries of “caring” communicative AI infrastructures. Drawing on a range of methodological approaches, including creative methods such as erasure poetry and participatory filmmaking, her dissertation critically reflects on how these engagements can foster a more diverse and holistic set of futures that can guide decisions in the present. Her dissertation project is supervised by Prof. Juliane Jarke and Prof. Andreas Breiter.
Before starting her PhD, she worked on the MemorAI Styria project, conducting research on participatory futuring around neurotechnology and dignified ageing.
