Angelika Wetterer (im Ruhestand)

Angelika Wetterer was a full professor at the Institute of Sociology from 10.2005 to 09.2014 and, as a founding professor, occupied the professorship for the newly created research area "Sociology of Gender & Gender Studies".
She studied German and Sociology at the Universities of Hamburg and Freiburg i.B. and received her doctorate in German Studies in 1979. After working as a researcher at the Society for Social Science Research in Medicine in Freiburg and at the Institute for Sociology at the University of Freiburg, she worked as a research assistant at the Centre for Professional and University Research and in the Interdisciplinary Working Group on Women's Studies at the Gesamthochschule Kassel. After working as the academic coordinator of the "Marie Jahoda Visiting Professorship for International Women's Studies" at the Ruhr University in Bochum, she completed her habilitation at the University of Kassel in 2002 and was awarded the Venia Legendi for the subject of sociology. Angelika Wetterer was a lecturer at the universities of Freiburg i.Br., Kassel, Hanover, Zurich, Vienna and Linz. From 2000 to 2003 she held the professorship for "Women's Studies with a Focus on Qualification and Occupation" at the Institute for Sociology at the University of Dortmund. In the summer of 2004 she was in Graz for the first time as an Aigner-Rollett Visiting Professor. Her last station before returning to Graz was a visiting professorship in Feminist Theory at the Institute of Sociology at the University of Vienna.
Her main research interests are: Professionalisation, division of labour and gender construction; feminist theory of science and society; modernisation processes in gender relations; social and discursive media of reality and gender construction; women's and gender equality politics in practical and theoretical perspectives.
Angelika Wetterer retired in October 2014.
