Change of your degree programme to Sociology

If you want to pursure the MA programme in Sociology but hold a BA degree in another field, you need to have verified that your undergraduate studies are relevant to our MA programme and whether you have acquired sufficient knowledge in the field of sociology.

Section 2, paragraph 4 of the MA Sociology Curriculum states the following:

Admission requirements

a. Admission to the MA in Sociology requires a BA degree in Sociology or in another field relevant to this programme, or a BA degree relevant to this programme from a university of applied sciences, or an equivalent degree from a recognized domestic or foreign tertiary level educational institution.

b. BA degrees from a university or from a university of applied sciences, or other degrees from a recognized national or foreign tertiary level educational institution are considered relevant, as long as you have passed courses in the following areas of sociology:

-   Introduction to Sociology, History of Sociology and Sociological Theory with a total of 18 ECTS credits

-   Empirical Social Research, including Multivariate Data Analysis with a total of 18 ECTS credits

-   Microsociology, Sociology of Organisations, Macrosociology and Special Sociologies with a total of 18 ECTS credits

-    Statistics with a total of 6 ECTS credits

c. Admission to the MA programme resides, according to section 60 of the Austrian University Act, with the rector’s office.
